I’m Brit, the maker behind these clay earrings, and I want to share a little about the journey that brought Marl & Mud to life, from my background as a pastry chef to the joy of crafting wearable art inspired by nature, adventure, and a bit of rugged charm.

From the Kitchen to the Workshop

My journey with clay might not seem like a direct path. I originally trained as a pastry chef, spending years in kitchens perfecting the craft of working with my hands. But after many years in the restaurant industry, I felt the need for a new adventure. My partner and I took some time to travel, immersing ourselves in the breathtaking landscapes of national parks and finding beauty in the earthy textures, colors, and natural forms we encountered. I knew I wanted to keep creating, but this time with a different medium—one that would let me bring the organic elements I loved to life in a new way.

Falling in Love with Clay

My first experience with clay jewelry was creating small, handmade gifts for campers at Gal Camp, where I serve as a counselor. I made each pair with care, adding personal touches that reflected the personalities of the recipients. To my surprise, those first creations sparked a passion, and Marl & Mud was born. I loved how clay could be shaped, layered, and detailed, giving me freedom to create pieces that captured not just my love for nature but my love for play, edge, and a touch of adventure.

The Marl & Mud Philosophy

At Marl & Mud, each piece I create is a balance of rugged beauty and refined style. I work with polymer and terracotta clay, drawing inspiration from earthy tones, forest greens, desert sands, and soft, metallic hues. My designs aim to capture a spirit of exploration and individuality, appealing to those who love natural textures, bold forms, and a bit of daring style.

Every collection has its own story to tell, whether it’s the Marble Dust earrings, bringing in delicate white and gold specks, or the Willow Collection, inspired by my sister and launching soon. Each pair reflects the elegance and untamed beauty I find in the world around me, crafted for those who want to add a unique, earthy element to their look.
